| Founded
in 1984, Proyecto Aldea Global (PAG), is a Christian based,
Honduran, non-profit development organization. PAG started
in twelve villages in central Honduras running literacy, community
health, child survival, and family based agricultural projects.
As PAG grew, programs in housing, food security, community
water systems, and cash crop diversification programs were
also added.
Over
the past two decades the face of poverty has continued to
evolve and change in Honduras...and PAG has evolved and changed
with it. Our programs have grown out of the needs of the Hondurans
we serve and now include programs in domestic violence, rural
road construction (to bring crops to market), micro-enterprise,
civil society strengthening, watershed and environmental protection
and HIV/AIDs education programs.
The
gradual growth and diversification of our programs is a direct
result of PAG's commitment to taking a holistic approach to
development work. Instead of focusing all of our efforts on
just one problem, for example health care issues, we have
chosen to approach development from all angles and attempt
to provide solutions to development issues that integrate
across all levels of development. To this end we have established
an enduring presence for over two decades in Honduras and
have gained credibility with community leaders and local governments
alike.
From
an original staff of one PAG has grown over the past decades
to more than 250 employees while responding to the Hurricane
Mitch crisis that hit Honduras in 1998. Currently PAG employs
approximately 125 people in five offices and continues to
seek holistic solutions to the complex development issues
that face many Hondurans. |
