Since 2004 Proyecto Aldea Global (PAG) and Cathedral of Joy have joined efforts to help rural communities and families completely improve their living conditions and bring smiles to poor children who benefit through a three year program called "Adopt a Village".
PAG and Cathedral of Joy have developed a five step community development process with the active participation of community families. Each "Adopt a Village" project includes the installation of a community water system, construction of concrete floors, home improvement, latrines with septic tanks; construction of improved cooking stoves and installation of family water filters. In addition, irrigation is installed to produce cash crops being introduced to improve family and community income.
Since 2004 five communities have benefitted from this joint effort: San Antonio, Vallecillos, Santa Fe, Agua Amarilla and La Masica located in the departments of Comayagua and Cortes. A total of 224 families from the five communities now have villages that have been completely transformed!
2008 Achievements:
During 2008 Cathedral of Joy & PAG’s Adopt a Village Program achieved the following results: (1) Construction and installation of a new water system in La Masica. (2) Installation of 33 bio sand water filters in Santa Fe (3) Construction of 18 grain storage silos to store basic grains in La Masica. (4) Cultivation of 60,000 plantain trees to create a cash crop income generation project in the community of El Bambu, in Cortes county.
