What is Proyecto Aldea Global? PROYECTO ALDEA GLOBAL (PAG) is a Christian Honduran non-profit organization with 25 years of experience working in sustainable development among rural and isolated populations in northern central , western Honduras and urban slums in Tegucigalpa . Proyecto Aldea Global mission is to empower families to reduce poverty and build just, peaceful and productive communities. PAG main axis of intervention are: (1) Agro business, scale production and Marketing; (2) Environment; (3) Business and micro credit; (3) Community health and HIV prevention; (4) Education, gender and civil society; (5) Infrastructure including roads repair, transportation, housing, etc. (6) Involving local churches into a social outreach program. Where does Proyecto Aldea Global work? PAG has three different regions of interventions. Region 1: Includes 30 municipalities located in the Northern region of Comayagua and southern region of Cortés. Region 2: Includes 3 municipalities located in Belen Gualcho, Ocotepeque. Region 3: Includes Colonia Flor del Campo and its surroundings, in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, Santa Lucia and its surrounding communities, near Tegucigalpa. What resources have PAG available in case of an emergency? To provide assistance during natural disasters and emergencies, Proyecto Aldea Global has six functioning offices in the region with a trained staff of 140 people. These offices are located in: (1) La Libertad Comayagua; (2) Siguatepeque; (3) San Isidro in Cortés; (4) Belen Gualcho in Ocotepeque and (5) an office in Flor del Campo, Tegucigalpa. (6.) Lago de Yojoa and (7) PAG’s headquarters in located Tegucigalpa. PAG has personnel with expertise on areas such as: Rural road reconstruction , new construction, rehabilitation of damaged ecosystems, dam construction on rivers and creeks, water systems construction and repair, infrastructure construction and low cost housing. PAG staff is also trained on the design of reconstruction plans, community evacuation, resource mobilization, civil society organization and mobilization and school and church coordination to assist survivors. Finally, PAG has data collection of the regions where it is working and several up-to date assessments conducted by several programs in the areas of education, health, civil society, church and school facilities, etc. PAG’s human resources include both, staff and community volunteers, which are: (1) Six civil society PAG promoters capable of organizing and coordinating team works, and also coordinate locally with local governments and mayors; (2) Up to 464 trained community nurses working in 400 plus communities plus 105 community pharmacies all over the target region, plus 6 medicine distribution centers, all reaching 400 + communities in the region; (3) Six builders, and 3 road repair workers using transport equipment, dozers, excavators, mechanics, etc. (4) One clinic in San Isidro, Cortés, with a medicine supplies and fully operational. (5) Two ferryboats to move cargo, food and medicines on and around the El Cajon Dam and the main road connecting Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. (6) A warehouse fully operational in Siguatepeque for food, medicine and cloth distribution. What is Proyecto Aldea Global past experience? Proyecto Aldea Global has been working in Honduras since 1984 in relief and sustainable community development. During this time, PAG has coordinated different actions with local governments and communities in order to provide support, before, during and after natural disasters common in the region of northern Comayagua, such as droughts, landslides, road reparations, hurricanes, flooding, etc. PAG expertise include: Civil society coordination for evacuations Water system design and construction Road repairs and rehabilitation Natural dam construction Housing (adobe machine and cement) Transport and distribution of emergency aid, such as medicines, cloths, food for work programs, etc. Assessments and rebuilding efforts in coordination with civil society and government at the local level. Watershed Rehabilitation and reforestation Micro credit for local economy reactivation Food security programs and economy reactivation. PAG experience with USAID (Post Mitch 1998 – 1999) included food, blankets, medicine and relief aid distribution (USD $323,000) and two major reconstruction programs targeting the Libertad and Minas de Oro region in northern Comayagua. (1) The Cross Cutting Program, 18 months and USD $1.59 million for road repair, housing, agriculture reactivation, etc. And the Watershed Protection and Rehabilitation Project, 24 months and USD $1.6 Million. Synergy (with other NGOs) Proyecto Aldea Global is a member of FOPRIDEH, the largest NGO federation in Honduras and also is member of the ALIANZA, a coalition formed by international agencies such as CARE, CRS, Save the Children, OXFAM, World Vision International, etc. Proyecto Aldea Global also has excellent relationship and coordination agreements with local communities and government’s Ministry of Health, Education and Environment. Finally, Proyecto Aldea Global works closely with the Ministry of Education in the region. For the past five years, Proyecto Aldea Global along with local governments, have built more than 55 building (schools) which can be used as shelters in case of a disaster.
