Dear Friends,
We have experienced an incredible year of great changes in the world’s economy that has affected the stock market, the rising price of oil, the emergence of regional political leaders who want to establish other economic and political models and an overall sense of insecurity that is affecting the most vulnerable, the very poor of this world. We ask ourselves the question, what is happening to our world and where do we go from here?
While the majority of the poor do not understand world economic and political trends, they do know they are being affected when the cost of their weekly food purchases goes beyond the income they receive for their labor or for the goods that they sell. Their aspirations and hopes for their families are similar to ours, good health, food security, educated children and an adequate house to raise their children with an income sufficient to pay for the necessities of their daily life. However there is a big gap between what they would like to see and the reality of their actual situation. The recent tropical storms greatly affected the rural poor who lost their basic corn and bean crops, their community water supplies were destroyed, houses were damaged, roads were destroyed and much of their livelihoods was affected.
Proyecto Aldea Global had worked in many of these affected areas for more than twenty five years and we have responded once again with emergency food, shelter and medical assistance. Once the floodwaters had gone down, PAG promoted a massive replanting of basic corn and bean crops, and began the repair of more than 60 water systems. PAG is also providing agricultural credit to get these farming communities moving once again. We give thanks that these people could pick themselves back up and move forward under tremendous odds to rebuild their lives and their communities.
For these rural poor there does not exists a welfare system but only the incentives provided by PAG to get moving once again to reestablish their lives. For two and a half decades Proyecto Aldea Global has come along side these poor who are struggling to improve their lives and much has been accomplished, but we are so very limited and depend on you and God’s blessings.
Over many years you have helped make these changes possible through your prayers and financial support. Because of you, opportunities have been provided for our brothers and sisters in Honduras to move forward and improve their lives and we thank you for your concern.
Que Dios les bendiga ricamente! May God richly bless you for your love for others. May you have a blessed Christmas!
Chester Thomas Executive Director.
