PANACAM - SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Official Name
Sustainable administration and
development of the Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park, Comayagua.

Geography
4 municipalities comprising the Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park, northern region of Comayagua.

Target Groups
Families (women, men and children) living in the buffer (uso especial) zone of the PANACAM.

Number of Beneficiaries
35 small villages within the buffer zone, 4,134 houses with a total population
of 20,500.

Total Direct beneficiaries = 1,290 persons
Gender Rate: 50W / 50M

Main Objective
To contribute to the sustainable development of the PANACAM, by implementing the Master Management Plan with the active participation of the municipalities and communities in the region.

Objective 1: Implement participatory actions to reduce the irrational use and destruction of the natural resources of the PANACAM.

Objective 2: To promote the economical development of the communities living in the buffer zone, with eco-tourism development activities.

Objective 3: To promote the natural resources management integrating communities and local municipality authorities.

 

In 2005, PAG received the “Golden Disc” (first finalist) given by the Ministry of Natural Resouces during the 2005 Honduras National Environmental Protection Award.
