Programs and Projects
Economic Reactivation - Income Generation for Women

Small animals programs started in 2001, to provide an alternative income to families living in the PANACAM (Cerro Azul National Park) and inside the coffee growing regions in La Libertad, Ojos de Agua and Lajas. The program aims to provide resources, capacity and opportunities to 150 women and their young children.

The project strategy started by training women and their teenagers to take care of the small animals, then planting the animal’s food, building the breeding facilities using local materials and finally, marketing their products. The animals are not a gift, so once the beneficiary family has reproduced their animals, the new breed must be returned to Proyecto Aldea Global to be passed to another family in need. This is called “chain passing”.

TESTIMONIAL
We have learned a lot about the management of birds. We didn’t have any chickens because they always died and we didn’t know why; but due to PAG’s motivation we decided to participate in the fowl project and it has been of great help to us in improving our family’s diet, because now we have more food sources such as eggs and meat, and we also sell them in order to buy the things that we lack in the house.
Without this type of project we would have been in trouble in our home. We are very grateful for the knowledge we have acquired on the management of this species and we hope they continued offering this kind of support, since we are ready to receive and to help our country to move forward.
