Bread & Coffee - Grass Participation & Gender

Official Name
A participatory approach to reduce poverty amongst the disadvantaged people in the coffee producing areas of northern central region of Honduras.

Geography
Three municipalities dedicated to coffee production in northern Comayagua, Honduras: Las Lajas, Ojos de Agua and La Libertad.

Target Groups
Small scale farmers and their communities, depending on coffee production for surviving and living under the poverty line.

Number of Beneficiaries
500 producers seeking diversification and marketing of their products.

Main Objective
The program’s overall objective is to enable communities to solve their own problems in a democratic and participatory way, searching for peaceful avenues while maintaining transparency and accountability.

Objective 1: Diversify crop production in the region and establish productive networks to facilitate marketing of new products, enabling families to secure food sources and generate income.

Objective 2: Improve the access and quality of education in the communities.

Objective 3: Improve access to basic health services in isolated coffee mountain areas.

Objective 4: Strengthen civil society’s capacity to participate in decision making and advocate before local and national government for the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Objective 5: Develop a community environmental network aiming to rehabilitate and protect their environment and water sources.
