The first case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Honduras was confirmed on March 11th, 2020. For Honduras, the Coronavirus is a part of other major problems, such as access to food supplies and water (especially in Tegucigalpa, where water is being distributed to urban areas of the city once every fifteen days due to the severe drought). This is a special burden for the very poor in areas of the city like Flor del Campo where unemployment rate is high and resources are very limited. Honduras needs massive prayers as our brothers and sisters struggle to fight this unseen enemy in very difficult circumstances.
PAG is currently helping approximately 200,000 persons during the COVID-19 emergency by supporting medical brigades, health institutions, and organizations that are attending the sick. In addition, PAG continues to provide basic primary health care services and medicines through its community owned pharmacies in more than 2,000 communities in western and central Honduras. During this emergency, PAG requires all types of help (for example, purchasing and distributing medicines, agricultural supplies and seeds, non-perishable food items, hiring health staff such as nurses and field promoters, resources to print educational materials, resources for health campaigns, and resources for prevention and education through social media) to help the most vulnerable families in rural communities. We need financial and/or material help to supply the basic needs of the population (food) and to protect and prevent the spread of the virus (medical supplies and medicines for health attentions). PAG's medical efforts are complementing the efforts of the Secretary of Health of Honduras.
